Road Trip Part One

Welcome to Arkansas!
This is probably the nicest state sign I’ve seen so far.

Our first stop in Arkansas was Lake Catherine State Park. There was a small beach area for swimming.

But we wanted to go hiking instead. We followed the Falls Branch Trail because we wanted to see the waterfall.

Thinking about waterfalls makes me want to…

Back to hiking and taking pictures.

We finally made it to the waterfall.

On the way back, there was this cool suspension bridge. Time for some catwalk action!

Our next stop was Hot Springs, AR.

There were fountains and filling stations where you can get spring water from.

The guy from the visitor’s center suggested that we take a hike on Goat Rock Trail. The view was nice.

Looks like a snake just shed it’s skin.

The rock wasn’t very exciting and it didn’t look like a goat.

We had dinner at Brau-Haus. Not so good. Allen, Clarissa, Aaron, and Kristine joined us by this point but I didn’t get any pictures of them.

After dinner, the six of us went back to our hotel, The Park Hotel of Hot Springs. This hotel was suppose to be nice and historic. Boy were we disappointed.

The elevator is worth mentioning. It was pretty creepy. It had printed pictures of random “artwork”. If you enlarge the picture, you can see what I mean. Plus the elevator doors would open and the elevator would still be moving. Like a good half a foot.

Then there was the condition of the room. It had a burn mark on the carpet, beds were facing each other and they made a lot of noise when you were on the bed. Now I can understand if we were staying at Motel 6 but come on. What happened to nice and historic? More like creepy and ghetto.
Later when Kristine was sitting on the bed and playing with her iPhone, something small jumped onto her hand. Aaron pinched it and took a quick look at it before it jumped away. It was a flea. Feeling uneasy, we opted to leave the hotel and stayed at the Embassy Suites. And, yes, we got a full refund.

Nice! I especially like the suspension bridge, snake skin, and the JP-sourced “waterfall” in front of the waterfall trail sign. After reading the trail description for Goat Rock, I was excited . . . then I saw the Goat Rock in the photo. Man, what a disappointment. If I weren’t afraid of nature, though, the rest of that hiking stuff looks fun! Dude, what were the employees like at the Park Hotel of Hot Springs? From those elevator photos, I get the impression that somebody there is into hard-core unmentionables and/or psychedelic experiences (probably drug-induced).

It was a weird hotel. Very throwback.
